MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Autauga Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help in solving the homicide of Edward Cortera Barnes, a Montgomery resident whose remains were found in 2012 but only now identified through DNA.

Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is offering a $1000 reward for any information that will lead investigators to the individual or individuals responsible for Barnes' death.

Autauga Sheriff Investigators advise that on January 12, 2012 the remains of an unidentified body were found by hunters in rural Autauga County. The remains were found in a wooded area located off of County Road 19.

The condition of the remains indicated to investigators that the body had been at the location for at least a year. Evidence from the scene revealed that the unidentified subject was the victim of a homicide.

WSFA 12 News spoke with Barnes' mother Tuesday after she learned the remains were of her son. While authorities would not provide details about the ongoing case, Linda Barnes said she was told he was shot four times.

If you know anything about this crime, please call the police immediately or CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP.
