COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The NAACP's 71st Annual Georgia State Convention and Civil Rights Conference began today, October 3, here in Columbus.

This year's theme is "We shall not be moved."

The organization is focusing on five initiatives: Economic sustainability, education, public safety and criminal justice, voting rights and political representation, and health.

Ed Dubose, president of the Georgia NAACP, says, "We want to make sure, as we bring out delegates together, that we empower them with information and the tools they need to go back out to their community, to make sure that we are communicating the right message to all Georgians that the Affordable Care Act is here, and it's here to stay."

The convention will continue until Sunday, October 6, 2013.
