SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) - Katrina Norris was shocked to hear her neighbor of a decade, 44-year-old James Wesley Meadows of Smith Station, had been arrested and charged with multiple counts of methamphetamines possession and receiving stolen property.
"He is a very nice guy, always willing to help people. He watched out for my house because he knew I was a single mom. He even fixed my vehicle a couple times for me because it broke down," says Norris.
"Search warrants have been executed at Mr. Meadows' residence which has resulted in several items of property that are involved in residential burglaries here in the Lee County and west, central Georgia area," explains Sheriff Jay Jones of the Lee County Sheriff's Department.
Wednesday, authorities searched Meadows' home and recovered three fire proof safes containing meth and other drugs, a boat, a golf cart, multiple motorcycles, $2,500 in cash and 60 firearms.
Many items have been identified as stolen property from Columbus, Lee County, Harris County, Lanett, Phenix City and Russell County.
"He just works at night I guess. I don't know, he would just be out in his yard a lot at nighttime revving motorcycles and things like that," says neighbor Patrick Mobley, surprised by Meadows' arrest.
Authorities believe Meadows was not working alone and that the investigation may reveal more suspects.
"We believe so and as a result of that there could be more arrests in the future, again, that is dependent upon the course of the investigation" explains Jones.
Meadows is currently being held at the Lee County Detention Facility without bond. This case remains under investigation and additional charges are expected.
