TUSKEGEE, AL (WSFA) -

Investigators say they've made an arrest in the shooting death of 21-year-old Tuskegee student Bobby Smith, Jr.

Tuskegee University Police say 22-year-old Kentavious Holland, a resident of the Brownville Community, was arrested and taken to the Macon County Jail.

No addition information regarding Holland was made available. Police believe they have a second person of interest in the case, but have not made any more arrests.

Smith was shot in the back on September 27 at an unauthorized block party. He was rushed to an area hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. Friends say he was a new father with a baby less than a month old.

The party was taking place on East Church Street in Tuskegee between the parking lot of the Macon Co. Department of Human Resources and Deville Apartments.

Because the party was unauthorized, Tuskegee officials say they will begin a crackdown on such street parties going forward. Police say the party Smith was killed at had about 200 participants. They say they will now require anyone holding a party in a public area to have a permit.

"We welcome students and faculty and anyone to have social events in the city," said Tuskegee mayor Johnny Ford. "As a matter of fact, we want them. We'll be happy to close a street if you're gonna have a block party.  We've done it in the past. We'd be happy to make our public parks available or our parking lots available. But you need a permit. You need permission."

Smith was a senior finance major at Tuskegee and was an athlete on the tennis team. A vigil was initiated by the Student Government Association to remember him  at the tennis courts. The University has created a scholarship in his name.

A bond amount for Holland is not yet known.
