Monday was "Bert Case Day" in Hinds County

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The first Monday in October now has a special designation in Hinds County: it's Bert Case Day!

The Board of Supervisors commemorated Bert during their meeting Monday morning, by giving him the Above and Beyond Award.

Bert began his broadcast career in the Jackson area in 1965. He has served as news director at all three stations in this market, but for the past 27 years he has been a tireless news anchor and reporter at WLBT.

"Covering the news is the thing I like doing the most. Getting awards like this make it possible for me to continue to do it," he told the Board.

"Hinds County has many heroes, but we only have so many native sons. You are one of our true heroes, one of our native sons. Thank you for being who you are," said Board President Robert Graham.

Graham also provided Bert with a commemorative pin for "Having to fight that dog"!

After presenting him with a resolution, the Supervisors shared some of their favorite Bert Case moments.
