Columbus teachers honored by Walmart, National Council

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Walmart on Buena Vista Rd. honors the Ft. Service Learning Academy by giving away $1,000 to teachers.

Twenty teachers from the school were surprised with $50 Walmart gift cards. This is all part of the store's Teacher Rewards Program.

Walmart says they do this program to help teachers who spend $350 of their own money on classroom supplies.

During the 2013 school season, Walmart will provide more than $4 million to 90,000 teachers around the country.

Also, Christy Grigsby of the Early College Academy was named a 2013 High School Teacher of Excellence by the National Council of Teachers.

Grigsby is a member of the Georgia Council of Teachers of English. She is just one of 16 high school teachers to receive the award nationwide.
