Autopsy results released from Columbus' 18th homicide of 2013

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The autopsy results from Columbus' 18th homicide victim of the year were released late Thursday afternoon.

Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Charles Newton tells News Leader 9 that 30-year-old Andy Phillip died from a gunshot wound to the torso.

The bullet went through his back and punctured the heart shattering his rib cage.

Phillip was found dead in a car on 2934 Branton Woods Drive in Columbus on Wednesday morning just after midnight.

He was pronounced dead at 1:13 a.m.

Phillip's mother says the last time she saw her son was around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. She explains he was playing video games when she went to bed. She was unaware he'd left the house until she received the call he'd been shot.

Columbus Police are investigating the case as a homicide.
