SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU/CNN) - Police investigating a deadly shooting on a commuter train say other passengers busy with their mobile phones ignored the gunman - even though he was openly displaying his weapon.
On September 23, police say an armed man on a Muni train pulled out a gun and pointed it three or four times.
But investigators say no one noticed - apparently because they were all using smart-phones.
They did look up when the gunman fired, killing a San Francisco State University student.
Police say the victim, Justin Valdez, 20, was apparently targeted at random.
The 30-year-old shooter was arrested the next day.
