Two people shot during homecoming parade

CLARKSDALE, MS -

(WMC-TV) – It was an unusually sparse crowd at Clarksdale High's homecoming football game.

Many chose to avoid the game after a shooting at the homecoming parade that happened downtown.

"Things happening we hate to see it but it's happening every day you know," said Greg Akines.

Clarksdale Police said there was a fight between several black male juveniles on Sunflower Avenue during the Parade. Two male teens were shot by another male juvenile.

"We're a part of the community first of all and anytime something like this happens it falls on all of us. What we try to do is wherever they might be we want to protect them," Superintendent Dennis Dupree said.

Police officers and sheriff deputies covered the area as security measures were beefed up behind the shooting.

"You've got a few knuckle heads in the county that want to act a fool and it makes the whole county look bad," Clarksdale Coach Tyrone Smith said.

Police are continuing their search for the gunman who opened fire at the homecoming parade.

Police have also not released the names of the two shooting victims, but they say one was shot in the arm and one in the leg.

If you know anything about the shooting, you are asked to call Clarksdale Police. A teen was arrested shortly after the shooting. Read more about it here.
