Columbus High students prepare for robotics competition

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Some students at Columbus High School are preparing to compete in a robot building competition.

It's all for the "Boosting Engineering Science and Technology" robotics competition, also known as BEST. Five students are putting their skills to work for this year's competition.

It challenges them to build a 24 lb robot in six weeks.

The team's coach says this challenge gives students the opportunity to build life skills.

The regional competition is Saturday, Oct. 19 at Auburn University.

If they finish in the top three they will go on to compete in the national competition. Last year, Columbus placed first in regionals.

They also cracked the top five at the national level.
