LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announces activation of a new traffic signal at the interchange of KY-55 and Interstate 64 in Shelby County. The signal heads are currently in place and will be activated the week of October 14.
The new traffic signal is being installed as part of the I-64 widening and interchange improvement project. The signal will improve traffic flow for vehicles exiting from eastbound I-64 onto KY-55 (Exit 32). Currently traffic is utilizing a single left turn lane and a single right turn lane on the ramp. Once the widening of KY-55 is complete, KYTC will be able to open both left turn lanes on the ramp for motorists exiting to northbound KY-55. Traffic exiting to southbound KY-55 will continue to use the single right turn lane.
Construction also continues on the entrance ramps from KY 55 to eastbound I-64. Once the final ramp configuration is complete next summer, motorists traveling south on KY-55 will have a left turn lane and left turn arrow at the signal to access eastbound I-64. Until that phase of the construction is complete, motorists turning left from southbound KY-55 to eastbound I-64 must yield to the northbound KY-55 traffic.
