BURKVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

BancorpSouth officials confirm a branch in Lowndes County was robbed Thursday.

Randy Buchfield, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications, confirmed the branch off Highway 80 in Burkville was robbed and would reopen with regular hours Friday. He couldn't confirm any specifics about the robbery.

Thursday a sign was posted on the door of the bank saying "Sorry we are closed due to an emergency. This office will open as soon as possible."

The Lowndes County sheriff referred WSFA 12 News to the FBI. The FBI didn't immediately return our phone calls.
