Judge denies bond for man accused of selling 2 women for sex

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A man accused of selling women for sex in Augusta isn't getting out of jail any time soon.

It's been about two weeks since Earthell Tyler was arrested and charged with sex trafficking.

Wearing a jailhouse jumpsuit with his hands and feet shackled, Tyler appeared in court Friday for a bond hearing after two women in their twenties accused him of forcing them into prostitution.

During the hearing, the courtroom heard for the first time what his alleged victims endured.

According to a statement of an alleged victim, Tyler forced two women to travel state to state, city to city and hotel to hotel until they were finally rescued in Augusta.

Deputies say they caught the alleged pimp while he was trafficking women at the Motel 6 on Boy Scout Road on October 3.

Tyler found buyers by advertising the women online, according to a statement from one of the alleged victims.

Tyler is from Columbia and has a lengthy criminal history; it took about a minute for his past convictions to be read in court.

The defendant's attorney asked the judge to grant bail because Tyler has joint custody of his children and needs to be available to care for them.

But the prosecutor argued that allowing Tyler bail could put the rescued women in danger.

He read a statement from Richmond County investigators who said Tyler admitted that he kept his female victims in check with violence and repeated threats of physical harm.

Judge Albert Pickett denied Tyler bond.

The only sign of emotion from Tyler was a sigh as he walked out of the courtroom.

Tyler hasn't been indicted yet; his case will most likely go before a grand jury.
