(WTVM) - Do you know your rights as a parent with a special needs child in Muscogee County?
If not, don't fret – the school district is holding a series of parent mentor meetings to get you up to speed. The first of four sessions was held Tuesday at Eddy Middle School.
Parents can learn about individual educations plans or IEPs, having your child tested for special education and legal rights.
As a parent of a child who has been referred for special education services or a child who is already receiving special education and related services, you and your child have certain rights which are protected by state and/or federal law.
Your Rights As Parents – Regarding Special Education is presented by Muscogee County School District parent mentors Lakisha Smith & Vernita Harris. At the meetings, parents' rights will be explained by educators and parents in an easy-to-understand video.
