Mob takes over Broadway to create anti-bullying video

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

From the Riverwalk to Broadway, students and activists took to the streets Tuesday to fight school bullying in a creative way. They were attempting to make a viral Internet video.

It's a video craze called the lip dub and it's taking the Internet by storm. Hundreds, or in Tuesday's case, more than a thousand people sing and dance to popular song for seconds at a time as a camera makes its way through the crowd. When done right, the finished product may generate millions of views.

Anti-bullying is the message behind this large-scale production that blocked off Uptown streets and enlisted the help of organizations all over the city. The Columbus Fire Department even lent a hand with their ladder truck, helping to get the perfect shot from the sky for the grand finale.

Tuesday's event is the largest in a series hosted by a group called Man Up Against Bullying.   They're partnering with Northside High School to celebrate awareness October month and give students the tools they need to prevent bullying. A local mixed-martial arts teacher, Nathaniel Hays of Gracie Barra in Columbus explains the three steps he tells his students to take.

"Number one is to ignore it, number two is to go tell an adult, and number three is, if you have to, you stand up against them because if you don't, you're always going to be constantly bullied."

The video premieres Nov. 5 in a screening at Northside High School.
