Sheriff: Six days after probation sentence, Union Co. man caught with drugs

UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Union man who pleaded guilty to drug possession was re-arrested just six days later for the same crime.

Union County Sheriff David Taylor said the incident happened Oct. 24. He said narcotics officers pulled over Demorris Keshun Davis for a window tint violation, and found he had 5 ounces of marijuana in a black duffle bag. Taylor also said the officers found digital scales and baggies, normally used for distribution.

The incident happened just six days after Davis received a five-year probationary sentence in General Sessions court in Union County, when he pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute drugs.

This is Davis' third subsequent drug offense since 2009, Taylor said.

Taylor said he believes General Sessions Court judges are to blame for putting criminals back on the street only to be re-arrested, and that this problem needs to be addressed.

"If I don't do my job as Sheriff, the people will vote me out of office," Sheriff Taylor said in a news release. "Maybe the public needs to look for a different solution to holding our court judges responsible."

Davis is in the Union County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
