NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Some families still haunted by a killer want to know why he's off Tennessee's death row.

Paul Reid, who killed seven fast food workers, most of them teenagers, at three different restaurants, is out of prison and at Nashville General Hospital, according to sources.

Though they won't go on the record, Channel 4 News has confirmed with prison officials that Reid has been moved, although the Department of Corrections itself refused to confirm the news.

That has become an issue with the victims' families.

Reid's medical condition may be serious. Prisoners on death row are not casually moved to a public hospital.

The secrecy behind Reid's transfer to a hospital has become a big problem with the victims' families, who believe they deserve to know anytime Reid is moved off of death row.

"I understand HIPPA and I understand privacy," said Verna Wyatt with Tennessee Voices for Victims. "Where does his privacy start? He's a convicted killer and he's in TDOC custody.

"I would think the law would allow all of the families to know where he is, at least that he's been transferred."

Doyle Brown, who moved to Perry County, still comes to Hermitage to tend his daughter's grave.

Andrea Brown was an 11th-grader at Hume-Fogg working at the McDonald's on Lebanon Pike in Hermitage because, like any teenager, she wanted a car.

Her dad just wants Reid dead.

"He's killed more people than any other person in prison," said Doyle Brown. "My daughter's been dead for 16 years now.

"Looks like if the appeals process was good for anybody, it ought to work for him by now. I don't understand why he's still living anyway."

Deanna Hampton has also suffered for 16 years, raising three children on her own because her husband Steve was murdered at the Captain D's in Donelson.

The night of Reid's arrest, he mouthed the words "I did not do this" to Deanna Hampton.

She would like him to admit to committing the murders before he dies.

"I'm on the fence," said Deanna Hampton. "I kind of want it to be over with, but at the same time, I don't because I have that selfish part of me that wants him to admit it. I want that final closure confirmation."
