SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A woman hospitalized since August was finally released Monday, and found herself behind bars for the incident that landed her in the hospital, according to Surfside Beach Police Chief Rodney Keziah.

Julie Amtey, 34-years-old from Wilmington, NC was arrested following her release from Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, and faces charges for attempted murder, reckless driving and failure to stop for a blue light.

Chief Keziah says Amtey was arrested for an incident that occurred in August, when a Surfside Beach officer tried to pull over a vehicle Amtey was driving because of a suspicious vehicle call. At some point, Amtey attempted to run over the officer, and was able to get away from him.

A few hours later, Chief Keziah says Amtey came driving back through town. She fled once more when officers attempted to stop her for a second time. She got into an accident on Glenn's Bay Road and remained in the hospital with injuries from that accident until her release on Monday.
