East Alabama law enforcement joins forces to target drug traffickers

Posted: Updated:
LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

The Chambers County Drug Task Force has been actively looking for drug runners along I-85, one of the busiest drug trafficking highways in the nation.

The effort has paid off, especially on Oct. 23 when a K9 drug dog alerted agents to 15 lbs. of marijuana in 32-year-old Jeremy Baker's vehicle.

Captain Van Jackson of the Lee County Sheriff's Office says this amount would be worth $100,000 in street value.

The arrest was a result of law enforcement combining forces to target drug traffickers.

Baker, who lives in Atlanta, was pulled-over near exit 58 in Lee County, and is charged with Trafficking, Possession of a Concealed Weapon, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is currently being detained at Lee county Detention Facility.

Jackson says agents who do this type of work are highly trained to pick that one car out of thousands that is carrying illegal drugs.
