(WTVM) -

Halloween is just a few days away, and the scariest thing for parents is making sure their children are safe.

There are no tricks or treats when it comes to safety on Halloween, and with close to 400 registered sex offenders in Muscogee County, parents have a lot of reasons to be concerned.

Fear not parents, the Muscogee County Sheriff's office is doing their part to help keep kids safe. All paroled registered sex offenders will have to report to their parole officers on Halloween during peak trick or treating hours and deputies will be checking on the non-paroled sex offenders to ensure they're not participating.

Last year, the Sheriff's office announced they would be using iPads to be more efficient and save time.

Parents can also be proactive by going to sex offender registry websites. Many allow you to type in your street, city, state and zip code to find out where the sex offenders in your area live. This helps parents be on their guard or have their children avoid those areas altogether.

Visit this link to enter your area to locate sex offenders in your area.

The Muscogee County Sheriff's Department will release additional information Wednesday about the round-up, and Russell County also announced that they'll have a sex offender round-up.
