Tiger basketball player suspended by NCAA for season opener

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The NCAA suspended University of Memphis men's basketball freshman Kuran Iverson for the Tigers' season opener Nov. 14 versus Austin Peay after he participated in an unauthorized summer league game in Hartford, Conn.

Under NCAA rules, players are only allowed to play in summer league games in either their home area or close to where they attend school, but not both.

The Hartford, Conn., native had already participated in the Bluff City Classic prior to playing in the Hartford summer league game. Memphis self-reported the violation, according to a news release.

Iverson is part of the Tigers' No. 2 nationally-ranked recruiting class. He is allowed to play in the Tigers' Nov. 8 exhibition contest against Christian Brothers.

His first regular-season action is Nov. 18 when the Tigers travel to Stillwater, Okla., to face the No. 12 Oklahoma State Cowboys.
