COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

One man is dead and another fighting for his life as police search for the shooter in Columbus' 19th homicide this year.

The shooting happened in South Columbus Tuesday night around 9 p.m.

It's not unusual to hear gunshot but for someone to actually get killed, that concerned many of the people we spoke with that live near where the shooting happened.

The Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said the victim, 23-year-old Dior Cheney of Macon, Ga., died after being shot, possibly multiple times.

The shooting happened on the intersection of Benning Dr. and Head St. in Columbus.

Neighbors say heard anywhere from six to 15 shots fired from what sounded like a machine gun.

Investigators report that Cheney, along with another male victim, were found inside a small gray car that had crashed into a nearby fence.

Officials at Midtown Medical Center confirm the other victim, a 32 year-old man who lives on Mathews St., is listed in unsatisfactory condition.
