MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The classrooms and hallways at Brewer High School were filled with purple Friday. It is not a school color, but it was Augustea Bolden's favorite color. Her fellow students wore purple shirts as they came together to release a sea of purple balloons into the sky. The football team will wear purple crosses on their helmets in her honor during Friday night's game.

The 17-year-old was driving on Eva Road Monday, headed to school, when her car hit a tree. She was not wearing a seatbelt, and died as a result of her injuries.

"I knew what was happening, and I couldn't do anything about it," said Ember Dutton, Augusta's friend and classmate. She was first on the scene. She couldn't open the doors of the car. They were locked.

"I was with her during her last semi-conscious moments, praying and saying her name, and just asking her to wake up and to be okay. And I am just thankful to be the one person that got to walk her from one life to the next," said Dutton.

Dutton said Augustea was truly one of a kind. "There will never, ever be a soul anywhere close to the person that she was. She was a strong Christian; she was happy all the time and loved everybody. She enjoyed sharing life with people," she said.

Brewer High School had extra counselors come in Friday to help students and staff deal with this tragic loss.

Funeral services for Augustea Bolden will be 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3 at Cullman Funeral Home Chapel
