Arthur Blank Family Foundation promises to help new stadium neighbors

Falcon's owner Arthur Blank wants people who live in the communities surrounding the team's new stadium to know he is committed to helping improve it.

Penny McPhee is president of the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation.

"Arthur, his family and the foundation would like to see a healthy vibrant community."

The Vine City and English Avenue communities are currently dealing with dilapidated buildings and crime.

"Arthur was very clear from day one that we are not going to build an iconic stadium on one side of the street and have a deteriorating neighborhood on the other side," said McPhee. "Our goal is to build an iconic stadium and at the same time raise up these neighboring communities."

Next April construction will begin on the team's new $1.2 million state of the art stadium with a retractable roof.

McPhee assures people who live in the English Avenue and Vince City neighborhoods their community will see improvements.

"We've heard over and over again, people say we would like the foundation to focus on human capital needs. That means jobs, job development, education and health and wellness."

McPhee said the foundations will work with the city, Invest Atlanta and the business community to make good on it's promise to the community.

"We would like to end up with a community that has the kinds of amenities that will keep people there as opposed to race through and get out as fast as they can," said McPhee.

"A community with good schools, retail, good health care opportunities and good transit opportunities."
