MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - An 86-year-old woman was asleep in her home when someone reportedly broke in and tried to rape her -- not once, but twice.

Shortly after the assault was reported in January, police sent a rape kit to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for testing. The results are in -- and a suspect is in custody.

It is a case that draws near universal appall.

According to detectives, the DNA from the rape kit matches Andre Brassel, who is 50 years younger that the victim.

Brassel is charged with aggravated rape and aggravated burglary. He is in jail on a $500,000 bond.

Action News 5 was at Brassel's listed address when a few people returned to the house. They ran from the cameras and declined to comment.

Teresa Davis lives in the same neighborhood. Her age is a secret, but she admits the attack on an 86-year-old woman hits too close to home.

"I don't see why no one would do something like that," said Davis. "You thinking you're protected in your own house and here comes somebody do something like that."

Brassel is due back in court Monday.
