GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Agents from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration finished off Red Ribbon Week in style on Friday.

They rode bicycles from Slidell, Louisiana to Gulfport in honor of slain DEA agent Enrique Camarena.  He was killed by Mexican drug traffickers in 1985.

Friends of Camarena began wearing ribbons in his honor, hence Red Ribbon Week.

DEA Special Agent Terry Davis and other organizers of the 55-mile bike ride hope this is the start of an annual event.  "This was done solely to support those fallen agents and law enforcement officers around this country who have given their lives in support of the fight against the war on drugs," said Davis.

During the route, they stopped at two area schools to speak with students about the importance of staying drug-free.
