Special tribute to fallen New Kent football player

WILLIAMSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

A special tribute was held Friday, to a New Kent High School football player who collapsed and died after practice on Tuesday.

The team played its first game since its sophomore linebacker, Jacob Vick, died.

A moment of silence was followed by the marching band playing the national anthem before the start of the football game at Bruton High School in Williamsburg, Friday.

Hearts were heavy as the New Kent team walked arm in arm across Bruton's field while cheerleaders rallied behind, holding a sign that reads: Pray For Vick.

Players from both teams had the number 50 on their helmets. That was Vick's number.

The tragedy of Vick's death had both schools demanding privacy.

On and off the field, hearts were broken for Vick but everyone carried on.
