SAHUARITA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

16th ranked Walden Grove's playoff hopes likely came to an end with their 38-7 home loss to #9 Safford Friday night.

The Red Wolves went into the game holding the final playoff spot in Division IV but the odds of them holding that spot after a defeat are slim.

Safford's Tyler Shurtz threw a pair of early touchdowns to David Borquez to stake the Bullodgs to a two touchdown advantage. Borquez made a pretty play on the 2nd score, playing tip-drill with himself to keep the ball away from Red Wolves defensive back Kris Moody.

After a botched punt gave Safford the ball deep in Walden Grove territory, Damien Vizcarra scored on a 11-yard run to put the Bulldogs up 20-0.

The Red Wolves started the season 1-4 but had won four straight games to put themselves in a position to make the playoffs in just their second season of competitive football.
