Woman dies in car crash behind Carver High School

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A car accident claimed the life of a woman Monday morning.

The fatal accident happened at around 1:15 a.m. near the intersection of Illges Road and 8th Street in Columbus behind the Carver High School football field.  

The Muscogee County coroner identified the fatal victim as 50-year-old Wendy Blackmon. According to the coroner, Blackmon died of blunt force trauma. Police say she lost control of the car and crashed into a tree.

According to reports, Blackmon was intoxicated.

The Jaws of Life were used to get the victim out of the car.

The passenger of the car, 51-year-old Emmaunel Perry was treated at the Midtown Medical Center and was released.
