COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Wells Fargo team members have chosen 16 non-profits across the Columbus area for $1,000 grants through the Days of Giving program.

Days of Giving, now in its fourth year in Columbus, allows team members to honor groups helping in their local communities.  The program began in 2010.

"Just read the names to get a sense of the great work these groups are doing," said Awale Rage, area president for Southern Georgia.

"Any amount of money that anyone gives can help our kids, but with the money that Wells Fargo gives, it will allow me to continue to pick up children from school give them nutritious snacks and help them with their homework," said Davita Bynam, Executive Director at Columbus Community Center. "Even give them some tutoring if they need some one-on-one."

The following groups received their checks Tuesday at a community breakfast at the Goodwill Success Center, located at 2601 Cross Country Drive in Columbus:

-Brown Bag of Columbus
-Big Brothers Big sisters of Chattahoochee Valley
-Columbus Community Center
-Columbus Hospice, Inc
-Damscus Way (Valley Rescue Mission)
-Easter Seals
-House of Heroes
-New Horizons Community Service Board
-New Life Center for Change - Teen University
-Open Door Community
-Ronald McDonald House
-Russell County Child Advocacy Center
-TEARS
-The Carpenters Way

"We are doing our best to be a great local bank, and this is a cornerstone of our local giving and volunteerism," said Greg Allmendinger, business banking manager.

Representatives from each organization were recognized for their commitment to the community and for serving people they are called to help.

Similar events are taking place this fall across Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee.
