Salvation Army in need of winter items

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Salvation Army is in need of blankets and winter clothes to help keep the homeless warm this year.

The organization along with along with its partners Naughton's Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling and Burlington Coat Factory kicked off their annual Winter Coat and Blanket Drive on Friday, November 1.

Temperatures are expected to get cold soon.

"Not only do the homeless need winter items, but due to the economic downturn, we are finding more and more families and elderly in their homes without heat and unable to pay these utilities," said Salvation Army spokesperson Shawna Kroh in a news release. "Coats and blankets are going to be very important to these people as well."

Organizers are looking for people to donate new and used items like coats, gloves, scarves, and blankets to any of the following locations.


North: 1140 W. Prince

East: 6202 E. Speedway

Northwest: 3936 W. Costco Dr.

South: 4226 S. 6th Ave.

Southeast: 8190 E. 22nd St.


Burlington Coat Factory

East: 3595 E. Broadway Blvd.

South: 3640 S. 16th Ave.


Salvation Army's Hospitality House

1021 N. 11th Ave.

Needy families looking to receive these winter clothing donations can do so at the Salvation Army's Hospitality House located near Main and Speedway in Midtown. The Winter Coat and Blanket drive will continue through March 2014.
