Governor Nathan Deal has presented Midland Middle School teacher Sue Funk with the Middle School Civic Educator of the Year award on Oct. 24, 2013.

The Georgia Center for Civic Engagement selects and showcases three teachers each year who have done exemplary work in preparing young people to become informed and engaged citizens. These educators demonstrate a special expertise in teaching about citizenship, the US Constitution, Georgia Studies, Congress, and/or public policy at the state and local level.

Educators who receive this recognition teach their students to participate in society and find their voice to affect change through experiential learning techniques.
