Perrysburg Twp Police tracking thieves over a year

PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

For over a year, Perrysburg Township Police have been chasing after two men they believe are responsible for stealing thousands of dollars in tools from Wood County businesses.

Victims say the suspects rammed their car into a garage door at T. Gray Automotive and took everything they could get their hands on – nearly $40,000 worth of hand tools.

"My heart dropped," said Marcus White, an employee at T. Gray. "The tools that we use here are my livelihood. They provide for his family and my family."

Police say Joseph Crapsey and his relative Christopher Crapsey robbed the shop and three other businesses in the township and Rossford in August of 2012. Police believe they are also behind potentially a dozen other robberies in Wood and Lucas counties.

The pair has been charged with grand theft and vandalism, among other things.

After they stole the tools, police say the suspects sold them at Toledo flea markets and on Craigslist.

"It's the dead of the night and no one is around, and they're forcing their way into a business and then cleaning out the mechanics' tools," said Det. Sgt. James Gross.

Even though it happened more than a year ago, White says he's learned to never take anything for granted.

"As far as blocking the door and locking toolboxes," he said. "We've never had the fear of being broken into prior to that, and we never even locked our toolboxes, so this definitely changed the way we look at stuff."

Police still have a room full of evidence from the robberies, but they need help find out who it all belongs to. Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call police at 419-874-3551.
