PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Arizona Department of Public Safety officer Carrick R. Cook said a 29-year-old man from Sudan was believed to be impaired by alcohol when he drove his car the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of State Route 202 early Saturday morning.

Cook said Maikil Doud Schol was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes when he hit a motorcycle head-on near the Priest Road exit, killing both riders - Andy Chilimidos, 50 from St. Johns, and Darlene Atencio, 45. also from St Johns.

Schol was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Fourth Avenue Jail ontwo counts of second-degree homicide.

Cook said the collision occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. and the highway was closed during the subsequent investigation until 8 a.m. Saturday.
