(WTVM) -

The Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are right around the corner and that means Feeding the Valley needs your help.

The organization collects and distributes six million pounds of food a year, but the holiday season is very important to them.

According to the U.S. Census, the Chattachoochee Valley has 82,000 people living in poverty.

We spoke with Babbs Douglas, the executive director for Feeding the Valley, who says the need for donations is increasing with 28 percent more clients this year than last year.

"More people are calling, and it may be even more people that are working but they just can't buy their groceries and take care of the needs they have," said Douglas. "We can't do this alone; we have to have the help of our community."

Feeding the Valley works in partnership with more than 200 charities and serves 14 counties in our area.

We will be kicking off our campaign to collect food this Thursday Nov. 14. For information on how you can donate, visit their website at this link.
