COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

We're still weeks away from thanksgiving, but at one Columbus shopping center it's already Christmas time.

The Landings on Airport Thruway held a parade and celebration 41 days early.

Crowds of people gathered to see the show and some waited in line to take pictures with the guest of honor on his throne under the first fake flakes of the season.

"We do it every year.   We bring Santa here and we want to make it a big deal.   We want to give back to Columbus and thank them for shopping at The Landings, and it's just our way of celebrating the season," said Cathy Young of Woodruff Properties.

There was no shortage of activities for the children and a lively parade to usher in Christmas cheer.

With an undeniable presence of pastels and pink flamingos, Christmas at The Landings isn't decorated in the traditional way.

"We like to be wacky and sometimes a little tacky, and it's just different.   It makes it colorful and whimsical, and when people come here, they can kind of just forget about things, they either love it or they hate it, but what it does is it gets them to stop thinking about the economy and just come here and have fun," said Young.

And on Nov. 14, they're setting a precedent for earliest Christmas parades of the season.

If you missed the fun Thursday night, there's still plenty more activities happening at The Landings in the future, and chances to see Santa.   Every Friday and Saturday night between now and Christmas there will be horse and carriage rides, and appearances by the big man in red himself.
