Lee County inmate turns himself in after walking away from work detail

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

An inmate with the Lee County Detention Center who escaped during a work detail turned himself in two days later without incident.

Allen Paul Simmons, 29, of Smiths Station, was on work detail at the Opelika Police Department on Monday, Nov. 18. According to police, Simmons walked away sometime around 10 a.m.

Simmons was in custody of the Detention Center for a non-violent, misdemeanor arrest for theft.
