JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Authorities say a woman was allegedly beaten, sexually assaulted and left on a dirt road in north Jefferson County on Sunday afternoon. The suspect in the case has not yet been caught.

The 49-year-old female victim told Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputies that man she didn't know picked up her brother and gave him a ride home from a store. The man then offered to give her a ride back to the store.

The woman accepted the offer and got into the man's 80's model blue pickup truck. He started driving the opposite direction from the store, so the woman tried to get out of the truck. Deputies say the suspect pulled her back in, drove to a dirt road off of Warrior-Jasper Road and got out of the truck.

The woman tried to escape again, but the suspect dragged her back to the truck, beat her and sexually assaulted her, according to authorities. The suspect then left her on the dirt road and drove away. The attack happened in the 4100 block of Warrior-Jasper Road near Corner High School.

The woman walked back to Warrior-Jasper Road and got a ride home from a passing driver. She is still recovering in the hospital and has several broken bones in her face. Deputies responded to a home on Blackmon Road around 1:30 p.m. Sunday after she reported the attack.

"Right now, I'm sure the most important thing to her and to us is we get justice for her and get this guy off the street. Someone that does something like that likely has done it before, certainly likely to do it again and we want to catch him," Chief Deputy Randy Christian said.

The victim and her brother describe the suspect as a black male in his mid-40s, 5'11" and around165 pounds. Officials believe they have a partial tag number for his blue pickup truck, BB4404.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

The sheriff's sex offender unit is pulling over all registered sex offenders in that part of the county to see if they fit the suspect's description.
