CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - People who were alive when former President John F. Kennedy was assassinated remember exactly what they were doing when they found out about the tragedy.
Some people here in Columbus may remember when JFK visited the area just a few years before his death.
We have a copy of the Oct. 1960 copy of the Columbus Enquirer that captured those moments. When Kennedy made a trip to the Chattahoochee Valley that month, crowds lined the highway to wave to the President.
He visited Warm Springs and LaGrange during his campaign tour. In one of the pictures, former Muscogee County Commissioner John Rigdon is shown on the platform with Kennedy.
Kennedy also talked with a polio victim during his trip.
