SIERRA VISTA, AZ (CBS5) -

Cochise County sheriff's deputies say a sexual assault suspect pretended to be a teenage girl over the internet to lure a 16-year-old Sierra Vista girl into having sex.

Kenneth Hall, 27, was arrested Sunday and booked into the Cochise County Jail after the 16-year-old told her family about the incident, according to a Cochise County Sheriff's Office news release.

The girl had made contact with who she thought was another girl over the internet and began communicating through text messaging and social media sites, a practice they continued for about a month, according to the release.

The unknown person who was using the name Maya and told the 16-year-old that to maintain their relationship and actually meet, the teen would have to prove her devotion to Maya by having sex with a male friend, according to the release.

The 16-year-old met with the man, later identified as Hall, who drove her to a secluded area where they had consensual sex, according to the release.

As they returned to town, the 16-year-old sent a text message to Maya and Hall's cell phone rang. The teen became suspicious and ultimately Hall confessed that Maya was not real and that he was pretending to be Maya the entire time.

Hall was arrested and booked into jail on charges of sexual conduct with a minor. He remained in jail on a $150,000 bond.

Anyone who has had a similar encounter is asked to contact local law enforcement or the Cochise County Sheriff's Office at 520-432-9500.
