Letter to Gov. Brewer calls for CPS changes

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The Children's Action Alliance is calling on Gov. Jan Brewer to take action and implement solutions to the state's failed Child Protective Services.

The director of Arizona's child welfare system says thousands of child abuse hotline reports have not been investigated since 2009, and it's unknown if those children are still at risk of abuse.

Brewer insists there must be accountability for this "inexcusable failure" at CPS and intends to have DPS conduct an independent review.

The Children's Action Alliance has sent a letter to Brewer calling for an independent crisis team of child welfare experts to manage the situation and to restructure operations for the coming months. Click here to read the full letter.

CBS 5 News is asking you send your thoughts to Brewer about what has been revealed this week. You can leave your comments below or submit them through our CBS 5 News Action button by clicking here.
