PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Two men accused in the beating death of a Valley athlete pleaded not guilty Monday.

Joseph Jessie Corrales, 23, and Robert Chavez, 22, are accused of beating 17-year-old Alexis Urbina-Ochoa to death in a home-invasion robbery two months ago.

They entered their pleas during their arraignments in Maricopa County Superior Court on Monday morning. Both will next appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 9.

Detectives said the pair were caught selling items that had been stolen from Urbina-Ochoa's home.

They were booked into the Maricopa County Jail charged with first-degree murder, second-degree burglary and trafficking in stolen property.

Urbina-Ochoa was a rising star in the amateur boxing world and had won a USA Youth Boxing National title in the spring.
