Posted: Updated:

Police say Joe Hendricks, a homeowner in Walker County, Ga., has shot and killed a man who he said was snooping around outside his house, according to CNN.

The victim has been identified as 72-year-old Alzheimer patient Ronald Westbrook.

Westbrook lived about two and a half miles from the house where he was killed. He had apparently wandered away with his dog.

Hendricks had called 911 after hearing someone outside his house. When he went outside to investigate, he shot and killed Westbrook.

Hendricks has not been charged, but police say charges could be filed following investigation.
