WAVERLY HALL, GA (WTVM) -

Christus Vidal Terry, 41, and Heath Hoomes, 44, have died in two separate crashes in Waverly Hall, Ga. and Crawford, Ala. on Wednesday night, Nov. 27.

Terry, who went by "Chris", was a lifelong resident of Waverly Hall. The accident occurred around 7:40 p.m. just miles from the house where he was supposed to eat Thanksgiving Dinner.

Terry's family members said he and his good friend were the only two people in the car traveling east on Highway 208. Terry was a passenger. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the woods across from Waverly Hall Cemetery.

According to Police, Terry was not wearing a seatbelt, and he died when he was thrown from the vehicle which overturned several times.

Sources who were at the scene of that crash said police are investigating whether the driver lost control while swerving to avoid an animal crossing the road.

The driver survived and he has been released from the hospital.

Terry was an employee of Harris County High School, and previously worked for the City of Waverly Hall.

In Alabama, Hoomes was killed when he was involved in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer hauling new cars.  It happened just before midnight close to Crawford's Deli on Highway 80 in Russell County.

It's not known what caused that crash, but authorities had the road closed for hours as they cleaned up gallons of spilled fuel.
