TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Salpointe Catholic will try to triumph Friday night where they have twice failed.

The Lancers play Scottsdale Chaparral in the Division II State Football Championship at Arizona Stadium looking for the first state championship in program history.

Salpointe twice before reached the state title game (1981 and 1991) but lost both times.

The Firebirds on the other hand now a little about what it takes to win this game. Chaparral has won six state championships since 1999. The last just two years ago when led by current Arizona Wildcat transfers Connor Brewer and Davonte Neal, the Firebirds beat Cienega for the first Division II title.

That title capped a three-year run of state championships for Chaparral.

Salpointe Catholic this season has not been challenged. The Lancers have won every single game this by at least 30 points.

Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
