HOOVER, AL (WBRC) -

A woman whose sister was killed after an Iron Bowl party in Hoover is mourning the loss of one of her closest family members and best friends.

Hoover police have charged Adrian Briskey in the murder of Michelle Shepherd. Briskey is accused of getting into a fight with Michelle after the game ended and shooting her to death in an apartment complex parking lot.

Michelle Shepherd's younger sister, Neketa Shepherd, was there the night Michelle died. Neketa says she held Michelle in her arms as she took her last breath.

Neketa says Michelle was more than a sister, but almost like a second mother, a best friend and a confidante.

She described so Many scenearios where Michelle encouraged her, made her laugh and provided support.

Michelle worked as a senior case manager to at-risk and young, pregnant youth through a non-profit agency called the Dannon project.

She was also the mother of three young children, two boys, ages 8 and 4 and a little girl who's 6.

Neketa Shepherd says she has explained to the children that their mom is gone but she says it's hard for her to even grasp.

The two lived together and Neketa says since this happened, she hasn't been able to venture into her sister's bedroom yet.

She described her as a funny young woman who was willing to give anything she had to help others and especially her family.

"She was like my best friend. She was everything to me. She was like my backbone. She told me, 'You make me stronger.' But she was the one who made me strong. She made me better. I learned a lot from her," Neketa said.

Neketa said her mother took the news of Michelle's death so hard that she had to be hospitalized, and remains in the hospital. Neketa says her focus now is on taking care of her niece and nephews and finding justice in her sister's killing.
