Lee Co. Sheriff Deputy car crashes following high speed chase

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - News Leader 9 was on the scene after a Lee County Sheriff Deputy's vehicle crashed at Woodruff Farm Road and London Street in Columbus.

Columbus police were also on the scene.

Lieutenant Walton with the Columbus Police Department tells us that the Lee County Sheriff's Deputy crashed while responding to a high-speed chase involving two home burglary suspects that started in Lee County.

Montracious Harris, 20, of Phenix City, Ala. has been arrested, and taken to Muscogee County Jail. Officials say a second suspect has escaped.

A resident on Lee County Road 959 called police at about 2:30 p.m. Central Time after they reported seeing Harris and another black man loading property into a car.

The chase started in Smiths Station, Ala. and ended in Columbus, Ga. Police tell us they chased the suspects at speeds of 85 miles per hour.

Harris has been taken to the hospital for injuries and afterwards will be transported to Muscogee County Jail.
