New Goodwill store and career center opens in Phenix City

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - A new Goodwill store and career center opened Wednesday Dec. 4 in Phenix City.

Hundreds of people lined up for the grand opening of the new Goodwill, located on U.S. Highway 431 North.

Phenix City Mayor Eddie Lowe came out for the grand opening, along with other elected officials and community leaders.

Inside, people filled shopping carts with gently used home goods, clothes, appliances and furniture. Goodwill president and CEO Jane Nichols said it's great to be able to re-invest in the community.

"We've not been able to offer mission services in the area before and this offers that opportunity," said Nichols. "They've supported us with donations now our shoppers have a greater selection a larger facility, a nicer facility. But the cool thing is, we have a career center in the back."

The career center offers training and interview rooms, computer stations as well as printing, faxing and scanning services. They also have a job board and classes teaching resume writing and interview skills. The proceeds from the store will fund the career center.
