Detainee escapes booking at Lee County Detention Center

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

Sheriff Jay Jones confirms that a detainee at the Lee County Detention Center has escaped while awaiting booking.

The incident happened yesterday, Dec. 5, at approximately 4:10 p.m.

Darrin Tyron Adams, 39, of Phenix City had just been arrested. He was awaiting booking when he escaped from the booking area.

Investigators say Adams may have been able exit through a door that was opened to release another inmate.

Opelika Police had arrested Adams for providing false information to a police officers. He had an outstanding warrant for theft of property issued in 1997. If found, he will face a felony charge of second degree escape, and a possible 10 year sentence in prison.

Anyone with information regarding Adams' location should contact their local law enforcement agency.
