AUBURN, AL (WSFA) -

Auburn University head football coach Gus Malzahn has agreed to a new, longer contract that includes a raise.

The university announced Friday that it had "torn up" the five-year contract that Malzahn signed in December 2012 that paid him $2.3 million a season.

The new six-year contract will pay him $3.85 million next season and guarantees a $250,000 raise each year.

The raise comes after Malzahn's successful first season as head coach at Auburn. Auburn finished 3-9 in 2012 and is now 11-1 and the SEC West champions.

"The new contract includes a raise and extension and is our statement that Auburn is committed to Coach Malzahn for the long haul. While this season has been remarkable, I'm equally excited about the future of our program under his leadership. The future of Auburn football is very bright," Athletic Director Jay Jacobs stated in a news release.
